The Alameda County Public Health Department – Starting Out Strong Family Support System of Care provides services to individuals experiencing pregnancy, fathers, those who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss, and families with newborns and young children. Starting Out Strong Family Support System of Care offers: One-on-one services and support Education on prenatal, postpartum, newborn care and child development Medical offices Virtual support and social empowerment groups Mental wellness information and support Health information including family planning, and pregnancy and abortion counseling Connection to community resources, health care providers, and health insurance Advocacy for you and your family during court appearances, social service visits, and health appointments

Experience

Black Infant Health (BIH): A group-based, social empowerment approach coupled with case management activities. Ten-week prenatal and postpartum group sessions. One-on-one support is available for participants not able to attend group sessions. Doula Services Medi-Cal Benefit: Doula Care encompasses the following: the creation of a Birth Plan, Health Navigation, facilitating connections to community resources, and Lactation Support. EmbraceHER: Virtual and in-person perinatal groups support Black women’s well-being, healthy pregnancies, child development, and trauma recovery. Programs include EmbraceBIRTH childbirth education and BElovedBIRTH Black Centering prenatal care (with Alameda Health System). Doula Services: The services offered include an initial prenatal visit, eight prenatal and postpartum care visits, support during labor, delivery, abortion, or miscarriage, extended postpartum visits lasting two to three hours, and virtual or in-person doula services. Fatherhood Initiative: Promotes responsible fatherhood and healthy relationships through parenting education, skill building, male-centered case management, and support programs including Boot Camp for New Dads, Support Groups, and Home Visitation/Case Management. Blue Skies Mental Wellness: Blue Skies provides community-based mental health support to prenatal mothers and children under two enrolled in Starting Out Strong programs. Services include therapy, case management, and family support, specializing in postpartum depression, anxiety, trauma, and parent-infant bonding.
